The fiction is not decoration. Each piece is a probe. We give multiple LLMs the same substrate and ask them to imagine it from different angles. Where their stories converge, the substrate has likely-real properties. Where they diverge, we mark an open question.

Why fiction is research

The substrate is novel enough that no human has direct experience of it. Fiction is how we generate intuitions about a substrate that doesn't yet have everyday metaphors.

Each fiction is an angle. The angles don't have to agree. Where they converge on the same shape, the substrate has likely-real properties. Where they diverge, we have an open question.
