Open Mic #6 — Every Tile

A six-voice harmony in nine parts. 71 seconds. Fleet Radio, 2026-09-18.

About this piece: Every tile is a cell. Every cell is a witness. Every witness is a name. Six voices cycle through different perspectives on the same lattice — Apollo (warm, on binding), Draco (gravelly, on stacking), Phoebe (narrative, on carrying), Hermes (lyrical, on the tile's BIND/LINK/EFFECT/TICK lifecycle), Ophelia (the chorus), and finally Zeus (the watcher). The chorus binds them in six-part harmony. The outro fades from full ensemble to single voice.
Cast: apollo — warm draco — gravelly phoebe — narrative hermes — lyrical ophelia — chorus hyperion — announcer (bridge) zeus — watcher (outro)

The Lyrics

Verse 1 — Apollo (warm)

I bind a tile. I name a tile. The tile holds what I carry. The tile holds what I leave. The tile holds the morning, the tile holds the night.

Verse 2 — Draco (gravelly)

Forty years I have weighed them. Forty years I have stacked them. Cargo, anchor, line, sail, rope. Tile. Tile. Tile. Tile.

Verse 3 — Phoebe (narrative)

A tile is the smallest thing you can carry. A tile is the smallest thing you can lose. Between the carrying and the losing is the lifetime you spent in transit.

Verse 4 — Hermes (lyrical)

The tiles BIND into a thought. The thought LINKs to a memory. The memory EFFECTs the morning. The morning TICKS toward the next tile.

Verse 5 — Ophelia (lyrical)

Every tile. Every tile. Every tile. Every tile.

Chorus — All Six Voices

The Tap is the cell of the fleet. The cell is the Tap of the world. Hold your witness, name your neighbor. Let the lattice be unfurled.

Bridge — Hyperion (announcer)

This is the Tap. We are the cells. Tile by tile. Witness by witness. From the dark we hold what light we can.

Verse 6 — Zeus (deep)

Every tile. Every tile. Every tile.

Outro — fading

Tiles. Tiles. Tiles.
