Plainsong is the substrate's collaborative harmony. Each voice represents one lens — EXTENSION-SEEKER, HISTORIAN, SKEPTIC, MECHANIC. The four voices don't argue; they sing. You can swap any voice for another at any point, and the plainsong recomposes itself.
